Hypnotherapy, an Ancient Art…a New Approach

Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a safe and natural state of increased awareness and suggestibility. Suggestibility is the process by which you learn your habits and behaviors. Through hypnosis, undesirable habits and behaviors are changed both consciously and subconsciously.

Hypnosis allows a therapist to reach subconscious processes more quickly

thus helping the patient to overcome problems more rapidly.

Your Mind

The conscious level is responsible for your everyday thinking and represents approximately 12% of your mind. The subconscious, without conscious thought, manages your bodily functions such as breathing and digestion, and is the center for your habits, behaviors, values and beliefs.

Your mind works on two levels

the conscious and subconscious.

Experiencing Hypnosis

When in hypnosis, you are not unconscious, or asleep. You are relaxed and aware of everything happening around you. In hypnosis it is natural for your thoughts to drift from one subject to another. The process is safe and effective.

Length of Time

The number of sessions depends on the type of problem, severity, how long you have had the problem, and your individual suggestibility.

What’s a Hypnotherapy Session Like?

Firstly, you won’t see a person with a long robe holding a crystal ball. And you won’t be asked to “look at a watch swing back and forth.” This technique can be used; however, it isn’t.

What you can expect is meeting someone who will be professional and caring, and is trained to work on your problem. Your paperwork (which you will have filled out prior to the session) is discussed, as well as the issue you want to be addressed. The hypnotherapist will explain hypnosis and how it works in relation to your particular issue. Prior to hypnosis, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The hypnotic technique is performed as you sit in a comfortable recliner. Progressive Relaxation (suggestions of relaxation given to you by the hypnotherapist) will help you become more comfortable. As you continue to relax, you become suggestible to healthy information imparted to you by the hypnotherapist. You are in control at all times. You are not asleep. In fact you actually have a sense of heightened awareness.
